Protective Covering Extends Product Life

PTFE and FEP heat-shrink tubing helps extend product life by providing a protective covering that resists heat, shock, corrosion, moisture, and other extremes. The tubing is water resistant, chemically inert, and can be produced in a number of custom sizes with a range of shrink ratios.

Our fluoropolymers are broken down into two categories based on their manufacturing process:

  • PTFE (Polytetraflouroethylene)
  • FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene)

Applications

  • Guidewire jacketing (interventional, access)
  • Coating surgical instruments
  • Dielectric insulation
  • Component covering
  • Waterproofing
  • Abrasion/corrosion protection
  • Reflow bonding

Capabilities

  • Shrink ratios to 4:1
  • Recovered IDs down to 0.005" (0.13mm)
  • Recovered wall thickness down to 0.0015" (0.038mm)
  • Custom manufactured to customer specifications
  • Teleflex Medical OEM can eliminate lengthwise shrinkage at recovery

Recovery

PTFE heat shrinkable tubing requires a recovery temperature of 662 degrees ± 8 degrees F (350 degrees ± 4 degrees C) for 10 minutes unrestricted (per MIL-I-23053/12A). Note: The actual temperature and time will depend on the size of the tubing and the application.
